Virginia State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Scott County

A Tennessee woman was killed and three other individuals were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Scott County Sunday evening, Dec. 29. Virginia State Police Trooper J.P. Flanary was called to the scene at 10:12 p.m. in the 3400 block of Bristol Highway.

A 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling west on Route 58/Bristol Highway, when the driver lost control as the car came through a curve. The Grand Prix slid sideways across the centerline and into the eastbound lane of Route 58. An eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Uplander was unable to avoid the oncoming car and struck the Grand Prix in the driver’s side.

The driver of the Grand Prix, Robin H. McAmis, 57, of Church Hill, Tenn., died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Uplander, Thomas G. Dooley, 57, of Hiltons, was injured in the crash. He was transported to Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., along with his wife and passenger, Cathy Dooley, 53, of Hiltons, and his grandson, Thomas M. Dooley, 3, of Hiltons.

None of their injuries is considered life threatening. Both adults were wearing seat belts. Three-year-old Dooley was secured in a child safety seat.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. The Virginia State Police Wytheville Division Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
