2006 Guide
 to Municipal Elections

The 2006 guide to municipal elections is designed to inform you, the voter, of the candidates running for office in the May 2, 2006 General Election.  Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.  We encourage you to let your voice be heard by voting for the candidates of your choice.

A total of 42 candidates are on the May 2 ballot with a large number of candidates running in the four largest towns. In the smaller towns, write-in candidates will be selected to fill vacant seats.

Melissa Ann Hunt

Office Sought: Dungannon Town Council

Personal information: Hunt is seeking her first term on the council. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant and is married to Jeff Hunt. The couple has four children, Hunter Brooke Compton, Brandon Hunt, David Hunt and Shawn Hunt. She graduated from high school in 1987 and has attended some college. Hunt attends the Dungannon Freewill Baptist Church and states she has lived in Dungannon all her life. She also says she is dependable and hard-working and would be an asset to the community. She is 37 years old.

James McKinley Lane

Office Sought: Dungannon Town Council

Personal Information: Lane, who was born and raised in Dungannon, relocated to Alex, Va. for 26 years before returning to his hometown in 1989. He served as president of Manassas Park Fire & Rescue Squad. He currently serves as secretary/treasurer of the Dungannon Fire Department. He retired in 1986 from the Federal Reserve, Washington, D.C. as an operating engineer. Lane is 61 years old. He and his wife, Mary E. Blevins Lane, have six children. He says if he is elected, he will strive to make Dungannon a better place to live.

Others seeking positions on the Dungannon Town Council are Dallas Dale Hall, Herbert Horne, Sheryl McConnell, Fred Nickels, Michael Anthony Nickels and Nancy Osborne. There are five seats on the council. No candidate has filed to run for mayor in the town.
