Clinch Valley Softball Team to Make First State Appearance

In the 25 years of its existence, a team representing Clinch Valley Little League has never made it to the state level. But one group of girls changed that in a big way with an impressive outing last week at the district softball tournament held in Lebanon.

Clinch Valley will be represented at the state level by their 13-14-year-old girls softball team, which will be competing starting July 21 in Norfolk.

This first time district win should become a charm for the Twin Springs feeder program. The group consists of eighth and ninth graders - some of which already are making their mark on Twin Springs’ varsity program.

Aneshia Stidham, Courtney Lell, Tamara Campbell, Taneshia Wallen, Tanya Elliot, Ashley McConnell, Danielle Powers, Stephanie Finch, Whitney Beckner and Jaci Mann suit the team’s roster which made a huge mission statement in last week’s district tournament.

Clinch Valley defeated host Lebanon 13-2 and in their second game they defeated Tazewell 8-2 to remain in the winners’ bracket, and most importantly securing their spot in the championship game.

They then faced Tazewell again; the team which ended Clinch Valley’s run at a state appearance last year. This time the tables turned around as Tazewell fell, 3-1, in the championship game to Clinch Valley.

Courtney Lell led the way for the Clinch Valley All-Stars. She is expected to be the Lady Titans’ starting pitcher next season. Lell had her way in the tournament pitching 18 innings and recording 34 strike-outs.

Taneshia Wallen, the Lady Titans catcher, turned in a 6-of-13 effort during the tournament, collecting 6 RBIs.  Aneshia Stidham also collected 6 hits in 13 at bats, leading the offensive effort for Clinch Valley.

The team is coached by Scott Lell. Roger Carter serves as the team manager.
