New signs have been installed thoughout
the county, but so far, no addresses have
been converted, and postal officials cannot
yet give a firm date as to when the conversion
process will be complete.
Although new street signs have been installed throughout Scott County, new county addresses won’t be available for some time.
Scott County E-911 Director Tim Addington provided an update on the status of 9-1-1 addressing.
And although county officials have completed their portion of the necessary work in implementing 9-1-1 in Scott County, postal officials are lagging behind in their efforts.
“At this time, all 9-1-1 addresses have been sent to the United States Postal Service in Charleston, W.Va. for the conversion from the old style addressing to the new 9-1-1 address format,” Addington explained.
He has been advised that Scott County is third in line for the conversion, so no addresses have been converted to-date. And the USPS cannot give a firm date as to when the address conversion will be completed for Scott County.
“Citizens are to be advised that the 9-1-1 emergency phone number is active and can be dialed for emergency situations,” he advised.
The old number, 386-9111 is also still active for all non-emergency calls to Central Dispatch. When dialing 9-1-1, citizens will still have to give directions to their location, due to the address conversion not being completed.
The Scott County E-911 department is issuing new 9-1-1 addresses for all new construction within the county, Addington stated. This includes new houses, doublewide mobile homes and singlewide mobile homes.
Before the address can be created for the new structure, the 9-1-1 staff needs to GPS the structure upon the completion of a footer inspection by the building code official. Employees also issue new addresses to anyone newly moving into an existing structure where they have not had mail service established.
Addington added that new office hours are being established at the Scott County E-911 Office beginning Aug. 1 for local residents needing new addresses.
In order for staff to perform the necessary field work for the maintenance of the 9-1-1 system, the office hours for assigning addresses are Mondays, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fridays, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
