Scott Schools Begin Tuesday

From staff reports

Students head back to class next week as the 2006-07 school begins. After their summer break, Scott County students return to the classroom on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Construction at two of the county schools, Duffield and Shoemaker, began at the end of last school year and the new classrooms at Shoemaker are affecting incoming traffic.

The traffic pattern at Shoemaker Elementary will change due to construction at the school. The road in front of the school sign will be closed.

Those parents who are dropping off students will be asked to enter from Bishop Street, off of Kane Street (the road beside the Campus Drive-In) and circle around the parking lot in front of the bus garage.

Principal Kathy Musick explained there will be a marked entrance and exit and a designated area for students to be released from their vehicle. School personnel will be available to assist parents in dropping off their students.

She added a thank you to parents for their help in making the traffic flow run as smoothly as possible.

Teachers return for an in-service day on Thursday at the Scott County Career and Technical Center before heading to their respective schools on Friday and Monday.

Students have their first day off on Sept. 4 in honor of the Labor Day holiday. The first nine weeks ends Oct. 13.

School is also closed on Tuesday, Nov. 7 for Election Day. Later in the same month, students, teachers and staff enjoy a three-day holiday from school in the Nov. 22-24 fall break.

Winter break for school students and employees is planned for Dec. 20-Jan. 2. Students return to school on Monday, Jan. 4, 2007.

March 9 is the date the third nine weeks is finished.

The first week of April is set for spring break, April 2-5. If no days are missed due to bad weather, the last day of school is planned for May 22.

The fourth nine weeks ends May 22 but make-up days may lengthen the school year.

Breakfast prices for elementary school students are 80 cents while lunch prices are $1.40. Prices for middle and high school students are 80 cents for breakfast and $1.65 for lunch. Adult meal prices are $1.30 for breakfast and $2.30 for lunch.
