County Tax Deadline is Nov. 20

From staff reports

It’s the perfect time of year to begin thinking about family gatherings and paying your taxes.

Last year the county’s governing body voted to move up the tax deadline. And the deadline to pay your taxes is rapidly approaching.

The deadline to pay Scott County real estate and personal property taxes is Monday, Nov. 20. The office will be open this Saturday, Nov. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to noon to accept tax payments.

If you don’t want to stand in line at the treasurer’s office, taxes can be paid at three local banks. New Peoples Bank’s Gate City and Weber City offices accept tax payments as well as the Bank of America in Gate City.

After-hour payments can be put in the outside drop box at the office.

Payments can be mailed to the Scott County Treasurer’s Office by sending a check or money order made payable to Treasurer of Scott County, 104 East Jackson Street, Suite 8, Gate City, Va. 24251.

If you prefer pay by credit cards, those payments can be made by calling 1-888-2PAYTAX. A local convenience fee is charged on all credit card payments. Scott County is jurisdiction No. 1063.

Elderly or disabled persons may be eligible for exemption on their real estate taxes if they are age 65 or older or permanently disabled and meet financial standards established by county ordinance.

Contact the Scott County Commissioner of Revenue’s office at 386-7692 for more information on real estate tax exemption status.
