2007 Republican Canvass Results

Scott County Republicans voted to stay the course and chose a new candidate to fill the shoes of a retiring incumbent. A large voter turnout came out during Saturday’s Republican Canvass to select their candidates for the Nov. 6 General Election.

Scott County Sheriff Jerry Broadwater edged newcomer challenger Steve Templeton by only 46 votes. Broadwater compiled 974 votes to Templeton’s 928.

The hotly contested treasurer race was won by Kevin Helms, who garnered 690 votes. He was challenged by two other seeking the nomination, Don Frazier with 640 votes and Ronald Chapman with 518 votes.

Scott County Commissioner of Revenue Gary Baker received 1,283 votes to defeat Freda Russell Starnes, who garnered 558.

Roy ‘Buck’ Meade beat newcomer Jonathan Wallace for the District 3 Supervisor’s race. Meade previously served one term on the Scott County Board of Supervisors.

Other candidates chosen that didn’t face opposition included Scott County Circuit Court Clerk Mark ‘Bo’ Clerk, Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marcus McClung and Supervisor candidates, District 1 – Darrell Jeter, District 4 – Joe Herron, District 5 – Boyd Farmer and Supervisor-at-large – Wayne McConnell.

Scott County Democrats will choose their candidates at their convention set for June 9 at 10 a.m. at Scott County Career and Technical Center.
