Dungannon officials issued a release yesterday (July 2) afternoon that the boil notice on the use of town water had been lifted.
On June 21, Dungannon Mayor Phil Osborne requested assistance from the county’s department of emergency management services to provide drinking and bottled water, jugs to distribute the water and the use of water buffaloes after the town’s main water storage tank was found to be leaking.
County supervisors declared a local state of emergency when Dungannon officials discovered holes in the town’s storage tank. A North Carolina company was contracted to refurbish the tank and they quickly finished their repairs. Shortly afterwards, Dungannon Water Department personnel begin refilling the tank.
Customers were advised at that time to not use the town water for consumption until it had been boiled.
Town officials explained that if customers find their tap water to be dingy or discolored, they should let their taps run or be flushed out until the water turns clear.
Customers that need more information are asked to contact Ray Blevins with Dungannon Public Works at 467-2538.
