Would you hand over thousands of dollars to a complete stranger? When you vote a candidate into office without learning about the candidate that is exactly what you are doing.
The citizens of Scott County should make an effort to talk to the candidates running for office.
Ask questions of the candidates and share your views. Most politicians are approachable and willing to listen and talk.
Candidates running for the board of supervisors and the school board as well as the candidates for constitutional offices will make major decisions that affect job growth, taxes, our quality of life, our children and our future. Please take the time to look them in the eye, ask questions and give them input.
To find out more about candidates and their views, come to the “Meet the Candidates” Forum slated for Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Scott County Career and Technical Center. The Scott County Chamber of Commerce and the Scott County Virginia Star are sponsors of the event.
All candidates for Virginia State Senate 40th Senatorial District, Virginia House of Delegates First Legislative District, Constitutional Offices, Board of Supervisors and School Board have been invited to participate in the program.
The informal “meet and greet” reception begins at 5:30 p.m. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet the public during this time. The forum begins at 6 p.m.
The program is designed to provide candidates with a low-pressure, non-confrontational opportunity to show how they stand out among their fellow candidates. Questions will not be permitted from the audience; however, the moderator will ask the candidates to respond to questions submitted to them prior to the event.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the reception and forum. For more information, contact the Chamber office at 386-6665 or e-mail chamber@scottcountyva.com.
