The 22-Pound Ancient Hammer
The Scottish Hammer is a
round metal ball fastened to a wooden handle. The
athlete has his back facing the direction of the throw.
He can not spin and his feet can not move until he has
released the hammer from behind the trig. He whirls
the Hammer around his head as fast as he can and releases it
when it's at maximum speed. Scoring is similar to that
of the Stone Throw.
Hay Toss
Pole vault standards are
set up, and the competitors (using a pitchfork) try to toss
a 16-18 lb. bag of hay up and over the bar on the standards.
26-Pound Weight Toss for Distance
A 26 lb. weight is tossed
and scored identical to that of the
56 lb. weight throw from
previous competition.
16-Pound Ancient Hammer
This competition is
identical with the 22 lb. ancient hammer
competition from previous competition (except a less heavy
hammer is used).
56-Pound Weight for Height
In this strenuous event,
the competitor throws a 56 lb. weight described in the
weight over the pole vault bar. The weight is tossed
with one hand only and the athelete is allowed only three
tries at any given height.
Final Caber Event
In this final event, a
different caber is used than previously. It is usually
longer (20') and heavier (50 lbs.).
