AppCAA Offers Free Tax Preparation

Need your basic taxes filed? If you earned $49,000 or less in 2009, you can get free income tax filing with Appalachian Community Action Agency (AppCAA).
The agency can provide fast, free, electronic tax filing. Call 386-6441 to set up an appointment to have your taxes prepared for free.
Folks who plan to use the service must bring specific items to their appointment.
- Valid picture ID
- Copy of your 2008 tax return (if you have it)
- Social Security numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) for you, your spouse, and your children born before Dec. 31, 2009. Bring the Social Security cards or ITIN letters to ensure information is copied correctly onto the tax return.
Income documentation including:
- W-2 Forms from all jobs worked in 2009
- All 1099 Forms showing other information received in 2009
- A blank check for direct deposit of your refund. If you don't have a checking account, bring your bank account name, number and the 9-digit routing number. Contact your bank if you need assistance identifying your routing number.
The agency cannot prepare more complicated tax returns that include Schedule C, Schedule D, Schedule E or IRS Forms SS-5 (Request for Social Security Number), 2106 (Employee Business Expenses), 3903 (Moving), 8606 (Non-deductible IRA) or 8615 (Minors Investment Income).
