U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced June 4 that, as a result of the Economic Recovery Act approved by Congress, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant of $344,955 to Clinch River Health Services to replace outdated equipment and purchase new equipment for their clinic in Dungannon which will assist the clinic in adopting an electronic medical records system.
"The federal funding announced today as a result of the Recovery Act will replace old and outdated equipment for the clinic in Dungannon and purchase new equipment which will enable the clinic to convert to electronic medical records," Boucher said.
With the benefit of the federal funds, the clinic will purchase digital x-ray equipment, an internal communication system and new computers to replace older outdated models. Additionally, new exam tables will replace 30-year-old tables currently in use in the clinic. These improvements will enable the clinic to adopt in the future an electronic medical records system, which will improve efficiency in providing service to patients.
The clinic provides affordable medical services to more than 3,500 patients from Scott, Russell and Wise Counties each year at its facility in Dungannon. Health care services are provided to patients regardless of their ability to pay on a sliding fee scale basis. Congressman Boucher has previously announced two allocations of federal Economic Recovery Act funds for the clinic.
In March, Congressman Boucher announced a grant of $128,894 also provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to hire additional staff at the clinic. In May, Congressman Boucher announced an additional Economic Recovery grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Agency of $50,000 for the purchase of a new backup generator for the clinic. Today's announcement brings a total of $523,849 in Recovery Act funds for the clinic.
"One of my highest priorities is expanding access to high quality health care service for residents of the Ninth District, regardless of their ability to pay," Boucher concluded. "The federal funding from the Economic Recovery Act will improve the health care services available to residents of the Dungannon area with attendant economic benefits to Scott County."
