Service Planned to Honor, Remember 9/11

The 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on this country will be memorialized in a community event to be held Sunday. From veterans to law enforcement to school children, the ceremony planned to commemorative the attacks of Sept. 11, 2011 say "we remember."
The Carter’s Fort Chapter Daughters of the American Revolutions along with Overmountain Men Chapter Sons of the American Revolution and the Town of Gate City are sponsoring a “We Remember 9/11” 10th Anniversary Memorial Service at the First Presbyterian Church in Gate City.
Students from the Gate City High School band are scheduled to perform. The Gate City VFW Post No. 265 and Hammond Post No. 3 will post and retire colors at the event.
Members of the Virginia Frontier Society Children of the American Revolution will also participate in the ceremony.
Local first responders and military personnel will be honored for their service and sacrifice. The Rev. Don Muncie, pastor of First Presbyterian, is slated as the guest speaker. Gate City Mayor Mark Jenkins and Dr. David Redwine, chairman of the Scott County Board of Supervisors, will also be part of the program.
The public is encouraged to attend this special event to honor the memory of those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001.
