Star Begins Candidate Profiles This Week
Published by the Scott County Virginia Star on Friday, October 28, 2011.
From staff reports
In two weeks, local voters will elect new leadership to the Virginia State Senate, Virginia House of Delegates, Scott County Board of Supervisors, Scott County School Board and the constitutional offices.
We asked the same two questions to each of the candidates and asked for their responses to pertain to the office they seek. Each candidate was also asked to submit a brief biography to accompany their responses.
This week, we profile candidates for state office and county constitutional offices. Included in this week's edition beginning on page 8, you are invited to learn more about 40th Senatorial District candidates - Charles W. (Bill) Carrico and John Lamie, First Legislative District Del. Terry Kilgore, sheriff candidates - John Puckett and Randall Barger, treasurer candidates - Don Frazier and Mitzi Owens and commissioner of the revenue candidates - Gary Baker and Shannon Allen Vaughan II.
Next week, we will include profiles of the candidates for the Scott County Board of Supervisors and Scott County School Board. Pick up a copy of this week's edition at local retailers in the county.
Where are the questions we asked:
1. We have heard many folks complain about the phenomenon known as "Brain Drain," where our brightest and capable youth graduate from high school or college and have to move to another state to find a job that pays a decent salary. If you could change Scott County so our children and grandchildren can make their homes and earn a good living here, what would you do to make that happen?
2. American politics has become so divided and divisive with splintered factions that has trickled down to local politics. How do you propose we work together as a united people for the betterment of Scott County rather than as separate communities, areas and political parties?
