Kilgore Chosen to Lead Virginia House Republican Caucus

Dungannon Elementary School Unveils New Playground

Dungannon Elementary School celebrated a historic event on May 22 as they officially opened their new playground, replacing old equipment almost two decades old while providing a safe play space for all of the communityโ€™s children. Duffield Temporarily Dubbed Sanctuary Jurisdiction by DHS

Last week, the Town of Duffield was listed as a โ€œsanctuary jurisdictionโ€ on a list released by the Department of Homeland Security. That list is no longer available. It first appeared last Thursday,but was pulled from the site on Sunday. Visitors to the DHS Sanctuary Jurisdictions web page now see an error message stating the page may have been โ€œmoved, [โ€ฆ]

Periodical Cicadas Return to Region



This year marks the return of the 17-year periodical cicada along with the annual cicada or โ€œdog dayโ€ cicada. The 17-year can be identified quickly from the annual as they have reddish orange eyes and more of an olive brown body color. Barr Named to Local Bank Board of Directors

The Bank of Marion has named Chad Barr of Marion to its board of directors. Barr is the Vice President of Finance for the Virginia operations of CRH Americas Materials. CRH is the largest vertically integrated supplier of building materials in North America and is the parent company of W-L Construction & Paving and Appalachian Aggregates, headquartered in Chilhowie.
